The National Assessment Governing Board is seeking public comment as it begins a preliminary review of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Civics Assessment framework. Input is requested on whether the framework should be updated, the rationale for any revisions, and what updates should include. Submit comments to nagb@ed.gov with the subject line “NAEP Civics Framework.”

ÐÜèÊÓÆµComments on Department of Education NPRM on Student Loans (March 2)
In response to proposed regulatory updates, ÐÜèÊÓÆµurged the Department to include all graduate education degrees—including Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs—within the definition of “professional degree” tied to “professional student” status.

(March 2)
ÐÜèÊÓÆµjoined the American Statistical Association and 26 organizations in urging House and Senate appropriators to include FY 2027 language exempting federal statistical agency staff from Schedule Policy/Career classification. ÐÜèÊÓÆµhad previously raised this concern in comments on a draft rule proposed by the Office of Personnel Management in June 2025.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµjoined 130 organizations in calling on HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to halt the restructuring and effective dismantling of the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE) within the Administration for Children and Families.

Aimée Dorr (1942 – 2026)
Aimée Dorr, 83, died on January 25. She was Provost of the University of California and dean of the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. She was an ÐÜèÊÓÆµFellow.

Christopher Knapper (1940 – 2026)
Christopher Knapper, 85, died on March 4. He was founding director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Queen’s University.
