ÐÜèÊÓÆµto Publish Book on Early Childhood Research In April, ÐÜèÊÓÆµwill release a new groundbreaking volume: Advancing Knowledge and Building Capacity for Early Childhood Research, edited by Sharon Ryan, M. Elizabeth Graue, Vivian L. Gadsden, and Felice J. Levine. The book, which will be available at the 2020 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, will be the focus of an ÐÜèÊÓÆµsymposium at the conference. Secretary DeVos Appoints Education Researcher to National Assessment Governing Board On January 30, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos appointed three new members of the National Assessment Governing Board. Office of Management and Budget Releases 2020 Federal Data Strategy Action Plan On December 31, the Trump administration issued the 2020 Federal Data Strategy Action Plan, providing agencies with a timeline to implement actions to support the initiative. The plan includes 20 actions in three categories: agency actions, community of practice actions related to a particular topic, and shared solution actions for all agencies to use. Read more
OSTP Seeking Comment on Data Repository Characteristics The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy issued a request for comments on Draft Desirable Characteristics of Repositories for Managing and Sharing Data Resulting from Federally Funded Research in the Federal Register on January 17. —Deadline for Nominations: March 31 The Yidan Prize for Education Research recognizes outstanding research that contributes in significant ways to education. The Yidan Prize for Education Development recognizes innovative ideas that tackle important challenges in the field of education.
—Deadline for Nominations: April 15 The Grawemeyer Award in Education is intended to stimulate the dissemination, public scrutiny, and implementation of ideas that have potential to bring about significant improvement in educational practice and advances in educational attainment.
—Extended Deadline: February 18 The WERA Focal Meeting seeks to feature research that includes more than one country or is comparative, cross-cultural, international, or transnational in conceptualization, scope, or design. The WERA 2020 Focal Meeting will be held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, July 1-3.
Call for Nominations for the 17th Annual Brown Lecture in Education Research—Deadline: February 10 The ÐÜèÊÓÆµBrown Lecture in Education Research important research that advances understanding of issues related to equality and equity in education. It was inaugurated in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, in which the U.S. Supreme Court took scientific research into account in issuing its landmark ruling.
ÐÜèÊÓÆµOpen Special Topic: Educational Data Science—Deadline: Papers due June 1 This ÐÜèÊÓÆµOpen special topic call aims to showcase the best of this ongoing genre of research and to broaden the scope of data science applications to include work on diverse topics and frameworks related to education and learning, much of which is being generated by interdisciplinary scholars and educational domain experts.
