Research Policy and Funding News: Protecting Support of Education Research and Data

ÐÜèÊÓÆµPartnering with 11 Other Education Research Associations Calls on Congress to Save Education Research and Data
In a March 25 letter, ÐÜèÊÓÆµand 11 other education research associations called on Congress to protect the nation’s education data, research infrastructure, and knowledge base, by safeguarding the Institute of Education Sciences and the broader Education Department staff, leadership, and mission. Read more

ÐÜèÊÓÆµUrges Action on Use of NCES Restricted-Use Data Licenses
On March 14, ÐÜèÊÓÆµissued a call to action responding to information that the National Center for Education Statistics could cancel access to restricted-use data, possibly as soon as March 20. Read more

Department of Education Initiates Reduction in Force with Significant Impact on IES Staffing
On March 10, the Department of Education announced a reduction in force among its workforce, resulting in laying off half of the staff across the Department. Read more

FY 2025 Wraps Up with Full-Year Continuing Resolution with Uncertainty for Research and Statistics Support
With a government shutdown looming, President Donald Trump signed a continuing resolution on March 14 that carries FY 2024 funding through the end of the 2025 fiscal year. Read more

In Memoriam

Frank Brown, 89, died on March 12. He was the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Education Leadership and Dean Emeritus, School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel.

Annamary Consalvo, 72, died on November 5. She was an associate professor of literacy in the School of Education at the University of Texas, Tyler.

Barry Zimmerman, 82, died on February 17. He was Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Educational Psychology and Head of Learning, Development, and Instruction at the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York.  Zimmerman was an ÐÜèÊÓÆµFellow.
