From the Desk of the Executive Director: ÐÜèÊÓÆµSpeaks Out on Bathroom Rules for Transgender Students
In light of the recent passage of Senate Bill 6 (the “bathroom bill”) by the Texas Senate, sending it to the state House of Representatives for consideration, ÐÜèÊÓÆµreiterates its strong opposition to the legislation.
 
Amy Stuart Wells Voted ÐÜèÊÓÆµPresident-Elect
Amy Stuart Wells, Professor of Sociology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, has been voted president-elect of AERA.  
 
Key Members Elected to ÐÜèÊÓÆµCouncil 
Along with voting in Amy Stuart Wells as ÐÜèÊÓÆµpresident-elect, ÐÜèÊÓÆµmembers selected several new ÐÜèÊÓÆµCouncil representatives.
 
ÐÜèÊÓÆµCentennial Lecture Series Highlights Poverty and School Effectiveness in Detroit
On March 23, ÐÜèÊÓÆµheld its fifth Centennial Lecture and Open Forum in Detroit, with Charles Payne of the University of Chicago as the featured lecturer.
 
Centennial Lecture Series to Focus on School Discipline – Boston, April 12 
On April 12, the sixth and final Lecture and Open Forum in the initial ÐÜèÊÓÆµCentennial Series will feature Russell Skiba (Indiana University), who will present on “The Limits of Schooling, The Power of Poverty.”
 
ÐÜèÊÓÆµAwards 11 Education Research Service Projects Grants
The awards program is designed to encourage education researchers to offer their pro bono expertise to educational organizations, institutions, or other community groups that have identified and expressed a need for such assistance.

The Donald Trump administration issued its preliminary proposal for the 2018 fiscal year budget on March 16.
