Promoting the use of research to improve education and serve the public good is central to AERA’s mission. To this end, AERA's efforts include providing scientific evidence on the benefits of diversity and affirmative action in legal briefs submitted to the Supreme Court; holding Capitol Hill briefings on research issues of importance to the public and policymakers; and issuing research-based positions on educational issues of public concern.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµExecutive Director Felice J. Levine and ÐÜèÊÓÆµPresident Tyrone C. Howard released a statement following the Supreme Court's decision on June 29, 2023, to overturn affirmative action, making it harder for higher education to achieve student equity and inclusivity.

 

Multi-society Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling on Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. (SFAI) v. President and Fellows of Harvard and SFAI v. University of North Carolina
ÐÜèÊÓÆµjoined 46 organizations in a multi-society statement reaffirming the commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM.
