WHAT Dr. Deborah Lowe Vandell, a renowned researcher on the short-term and long-term effects of early child care and education, will deliver a public lecture titled “,” as part of the 熊猫视频’s Centennial Lecture Series. The event is free, open to the public, and includes an informal buffet reception.
Vandell, a professor of education and psychology in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine, will examine the short- and long-term benefits of early care and education as well as the factors that impede program effectiveness. She also will explore promising policies and strategies that can ensure young children receive the high quality early experiences they need.
Vandell’s 20-minute-long talk will be followed by a discussion moderated by Ben Felder, an investigative reporter covering education, politics, poverty, social trends, and data for The Oklahoman. Debra Andersen, executive director of Smart Start Oklahoma, and Gary D. Sandefur, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs and professor of sociology at Oklahoma State University, will join Vandell and Felder during the discussion to offer comments on the talk and field questions from the audience.
AERA’s is a series of six education research lectures held across the country as part of the association’s centennial celebration.
WHO Deborah Lowe Vandell is a professor of education and psychology in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine, where she served as the founding dean. The author of more than 150 articles and three books, she has focused much of her research on the short-term and long-term effects of early child care and education. Vandell began her career as a kindergarten and second grade teacher. Her testimony before Congress and other federal, state, and local governmental bodies has been used to inform policy decisions in early childhood and afterschool programming. .
