ÐÜèÊÓÆµand the Association for the Study of Higher Education issued a joint statement in early October on the shooting at Umpqua Community College.

Teresa L. McCarty, a world-renowned expert on Indigenous education issues, delivered the 12th annual ÐÜèÊÓÆµBrown Lecture in Education Research on October 22 in Washington, D.C.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµleadership gathered in Washington, D.C., from October 23–25 for the 2015 Coordinated Committee Meeting (CCM). CCM provides an opportunity for AERA’s committees to not only address their individual goals, but also to come together collectively to further AERA’s mission. 


Following a successful Capitol Hill briefing on LGBTQ issues in education in June, ÐÜèÊÓÆµExecutive Director Felice Levine and ÐÜèÊÓÆµDirector of Professional Development George Wimberly led a briefing for members of the Education Department on the same subject on October 27.


Outstanding early career scholars and researchers gathered in Washington, D.C., for the ÐÜèÊÓÆµGrants Program Fall Research Conference on October 8–10.
 

Research Policy and Funding News


The White House and Congress have reached a deal that would allow for modest increases in spending for federal agencies that fund education research, including the Institute of Education Sciences, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health, among others. 


Congress is considering legislation that would establish a 15-member commission to study how best to expand and coordinate the use of federal administrative data to evaluate the effectiveness of federal programs.
