Supreme Court Rules that Citizenship Question Cannot Yet Be Added to 2020 Census On June 27, the Supreme Court, in a 5–4 decision, ruled that the district court in New York took appropriate action in blocking the citizenship question from the 2020 Census, based on the rationale for adding the question presented by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. National Academies’ Report Calls for a National System to Measure Equity in Education and Identify Disparities in Outcomes and Opportunity On June 13, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released a new report, Monitoring Educational Equity, that calls for a centralized system of indicators of educational equity in an effort to bring attention to disparities in the U.S. education system. House Takes Up FY 2020 Appropriations Packages Including Education Research Agencies On June 19, the House voted 226–203 to pass an appropriations package, HR 2740, consisting of four spending bills for FY 2020, including the legislation for Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
