Citing AERA’s “longstanding commitment to access of persons with disabilities in the field of education research, in other scientific fields, and in education across the life span,” the Council last month endorsed a resolution urging U.S. ratification of the (CRPD).
The CRPD, which was adopted by the United Nations in 2006, includes two articles that pertain to education research – specifically, language on data protection, respect for privacy, and confidentiality of persons with disabilities that is consistent with the 熊猫视频Code of Ethics. It has been signed by President Barack Obama, but has not yet been ratified by the Senate.
Council’s endorsement of the resolution is consistent with prior 熊猫视频policy statements and endorsements on human rights issues, including the 熊猫视频Statement on Human Rights and the AAAS Resolution on Free and Open Exchange in 2006.
The AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition, which includes AERA, has been reaching out to member scientific societies to support U.S. ratification of CRPD. Following Council’s resolution, 熊猫视频will be working closely with the coalition to urge Senate action.
