January 2023
The 2023 ÐÜèÊÓƵAnnual Meeting in Chicago will feature a program of nine professional development and training courses aimed at building research capacity. The courses cover salient topics in quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis, statistical techniques, meta-analysis, and writing about research. The in-person courses begin on Wednesday, April 12, one day prior to the start of the Annual Meeting. Led by an expert faculty of researchers and scholars, these courses are designed at various levels to reach graduate students, early career scholars, practitioners, and other researchers who seek to increase their knowledge and enhance their research skills. The ÐÜèÊÓƵProfessional Development and Training Committee organizes the Annual Meeting program of courses.
Several of the courses focus on aspects of developing careful, detailed, systematic, and analytic literature reviews, which is a tenet of this year’s meeting theme and goals. The faculty for “Introduction to Systematic Review” (PD23-01) address the key aspects of systematic review with a focus on literature from qualitative research studies. Quantitative analysis of large-scale data sets is the focus of “Introduction to Meta-Analysis” (PD23-02). Other courses, “Qualitative Research From Literature Review to Large Dataset Analysis” (PD23-05) and “Foundations of Learning Analytics With Rstudio” (PD23-06), integrate the literature review as one of the data analysis techniques featured in the course.
“We are enthusiastic about the strong program of courses the ÐÜèÊÓƵProfessional Development and Training Committee is offering this year,” said Felice J. Levine, ÐÜèÊÓƵExecutive Director. “These courses aim to build research capacity across methodological and substantive areas.”
To encourage participation in these in-person courses, ÐÜèÊÓƵis charging members a modest fee of $75 each for the full-day courses and $45 each for the half-day courses ($90 or $60, respectively, for non-members). Professional development courses can be added to new or existing Annual Meeting registrations in the My AERA section of the ÐÜèÊÓƵwebsite. Questions about the courses should be directed to profdevel@aera.net.
