Thirty-one accomplished scholars and a complementary group of national thought and policy leaders met at the ÐÜèÊÓÆµKnowledge Forum, February 18-19, in Washington, D.C. A first-of-its kind event in education research, the Forum aimed to connect the science and scholarship of education research to policy and practice emphasizing the value of diverse expertise.  

 

ÐÜèÊÓÆµhas announced the selection of 22 scholars as 2016 ÐÜèÊÓÆµFellows. ÐÜèÊÓÆµFellows are selected on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements.
 
Annual Meeting Program Now Available
The 2016 Annual Meeting Online Program schedule is now available to search. Access the program through your My AERA page or through this guest access .
 

A rich and dynamic program of professional development and training courses is being offered at the 2016 ÐÜèÊÓÆµAnnual Meeting in Washington, D.C.  

Each ÐÜèÊÓÆµpresident alerts the membership when the committee appointment process is about to begin. Your professional service is vital to the ongoing work of the association. 

AERA’s long-standing Organization of Institutional Affiliates has been renamed with a new mission statement to align its vision and purpose as an integral part of AERA. It is now called the Consortium of University and Research Institutions. 

On February 18, President Barack Obama named 105 scholars as recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. Of those researchers, five were specifically recognized for their contributions to education research.

Research Policy and Funding News


On February 10, the House of Representations voted 236178 to pass the Scientific Research in the National Interest Act (HR 3293). The bill would require the National Science Foundation to provide justification that each grant the agency awards is in the national interest.

On February 9, the Obama administration released a $4.15 trillion budget for FY 2017. The budget shows a commitment to evidence-based policy making and investment in research and development.
