March 2013 Earlier this month, 熊猫视频announced the publication of the International Handbook of Research on Environmental Education, published by Routledge on behalf of AERA. Edited by Robert B. Stevenson, Michael Brody, Justin Dillon, and Arjen E. J. Wals, the book is an international effort, with 102 contributors from six continents and 15 countries. The idea for the book emanated from the Environmental Education Special Interest Group. In the book’s foreword, Cherry A. McGee Banks, chair of the 熊猫视频Books Editorial Board, notes that the editors “have collected in a single volume a wealth of information including statistics, analyses, and studies that describe the role that research can play in helping educators, researchers, policymakers and students better understand the environmental issues that people around the world are confronting.”
Comprehensive in size and scope, the book’s 51 chapters cover a vast terrain of issues, debates, and timely topics relating to the field. The handbook “could not come at a better time, when the world is fast realizing how essential it is to expand education and enhance literacy about the environment,” observed 熊猫视频Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “This cross-disciplinary volume identifies the scholarship that can and should undergird debate of environmental issues such as climate change, conservation, and sustainability.”
A session at the 2013 熊猫视频Annual Meeting in San Francisco will examine this new volume and will feature open remarks by the editors as well as comments by experts not associated with the volume.
About the Editors:
Robert B. Stevenson is a professor and tropical research leader (environmental sustainability education) at the Cairns Institute and School of Education and director of the Centre for Research and Innovation in Sustainability Education at James Cook University in Australia.
Michael Brody is an associate professor of curriculum and instruction at Montana State University, where he teaches courses in science, education, and research at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Justin Dillon is a professor of science and environmental education at King's College London. He is also the head of the Science and Technology Education Group and co-leader of the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Arjen E. J. Wals is a professor of social learning and sustainable development at Wageningen University in The Netherlands. He also holds an adjunct professorship at Cornell University and is a UNESCO chair in the same field.
