ÐÜèÊÓƵJoins the Scholars at Risk Network
August 2012
AERA, a founding member of the Human Rights Coalition led by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has expanded its presence in the human rights arena. This June the ÐÜèÊÓƵCouncil voted unanimously to join the Scholars at Risk Network (SAR).
SAR is an international network of academic institutions and individuals working to promote academic freedom and to defend the human rights of scholars worldwide.
As explained on its , SAR saves lives by providing sanctuary to professors, lecturers, researchers, and other intellectuals who suffer threats in their home country and helps them continue their professional work abroad. SAR also produces educational events and publications, advocates for imprisoned scholars, and undertakes research to promote respect for academic freedom.
“SAR has valuable programming that importantly serves to address human rights threats to scholars, and it has evolved deep roots internationally among academic organizations and scientific associations,” noted ÐÜèÊÓƵExecutive Director Felice J. Levine.
