Returning to Washington, D.C. after almost 30 years, the 2016 ÐÜèÊÓÆµAnnual Meeting brought the second-largest turnout ever (16,182) and a unique opportunity to connect research to policy and public issues.  

The 2016 Annual Meeting featured major events to mark AERA’s Centennial, including a special Opening Plenary Session and Gala, a Knowledge Forum series featuring Ed-Talks, and the release of the first ÐÜèÊÓÆµCentennial publication.
 

ÐÜèÊÓÆµheld a Higher Education Leadership Conference on Advancing Public Scholarship in Education on April 7 with about 90 attendees.
 

Marta Tienda, a professor of sociology and public affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, has been selected by ÐÜèÊÓÆµto present the 2016 Brown Lecture in Education Research.

Beginning in 2017, ÐÜèÊÓÆµmembers will have the option to select from an expanded list of gender categories when renewing their membership or joining the Association.

P. Karen Murphy, Pennsylvania State University, has been appointed editor of Review of Educational Research (RER) for the 2017–2019 volume years. She will begin to receive manuscripts on July 1 and will become editor of record in January 2017.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµhas published two books with groundbreaking scholarship in critical emerging areas of education research that are now available for online ordering.

On the first day of the 2016 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., ÐÜèÊÓÆµheld an Advocacy Day with more than 50 ÐÜèÊÓÆµmembers visiting 100 congressional offices.
 
ÐÜèÊÓÆµspotlighted innovative research that aims to improve student STEM outcomes and encourage interest in STEM among middle school students at the 22nd Annual Coalition for National Science Funding (NSF) Hill Exhibition on April 26.
 

On April 13, ÐÜèÊÓÆµco-sponsored a poster exhibition organized by the Coalition to Promote Research and the Coalition for National Science Funding titled “Wasteful” Research? Looking Beyond the Abstract.
