Lecture in Education Research on October 20, Princeton University Professor Marta Tienda will ask whether it is possible to rewrite the social contract so that education is a fundamental right—a statutory guarantee—that is both uniform across states and federally enforceable.

National Centennial Lecture Series to Launch in November
ÐÜèÊÓÆµwill launch a Centennial Lecture Series featuring education research lectures to be held across the United States from November 2016 through April 2017. The series will feature six lectures with each accompanied by an open discussion forum of policy leaders and scholars.
ÐÜèÊÓÆµand WERA Convene Meeting of the Americas Education Research Associations
On September 8–10, ÐÜèÊÓÆµand the World Education Research Association jointly convened the first-ever meeting of education research associations in the Americas. The meeting, held in Washington, D.C., brought together 23 representatives from 16 associations and related research organizations from throughout the Americas.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµand the Learning and Education Academic Research Network are circulating a letter across the education research community to encourage Congress to support the Institute of Education Sciences in the 2017 fiscal year budget.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµAdvocates for Education Researcher as Occupation in SOC
ÐÜèÊÓÆµsubmitted comments on September 19 urging the Standard Occupational Classification Policy Committee to explicitly include education researcher as an occupational category. The SOC is the basic system used by the Office of Management and Budget and federal statistical agencies to classify workers into categories for the purpose of collecting, calculating, and disseminating data.

The ÐÜèÊÓÆµConsortium of Universities and Research Institutions met on September 18–19 for its annual two-day fall policy meeting in Washington, D.C. Representatives from more than 50 schools and colleges of education and research institutions attended.

The U.S. Department of Education is seeking qualified candidates for four positions on its National Assessment Governing Board. The Governing Board sets policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as The Nation’s Report Card.

IES Rolls Out New What Works Clearinghouse WebsiteÌý
On September 13, the Institute of Education Sciences IESÌýlaunched a new What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) website. Established in 2002, the WWC reviews the existing research on different programs, products, practices, and policies in education. Its goal is to provide educators with the information they need to make evidence-based decisions.
