Before a record audience of over 700 on-site attendees at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington, D.C., and more than 500 online viewers from around the world, James D. Anderson delivered the eleventh annual ÐÜèÊÓÆµBrown Lecture in Education Research. 
   

Over 100 of AERA’s leaders convened on October 24–25 in Washington, D.C., for the association’s 2014 Coordinated Committee Meeting, an annual opportunity for ÐÜèÊÓÆµcommittees to meet and address issues of significance to the field. 
   

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced five appointees to the National Assessment Governing Board, including Mitchell Chester, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and a member of AERA.

Research Policy News


The National Board for Education Sciences held its fall meeting on October 30, taking up important substantive topics, including the Higher Education Rating System and the ESEA Pooled Evaluation Authority. 

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) released a letter late last month that she wrote to House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) expressing concern over the chairman’s ongoing “investigation” into the merit review process at the National Science Foundation.

Beyond AERA


A new report from the American Academy of Arts & Sciences urges sustained federal investment in research, with specific emphasis on the importance of funding the very best science, including social and behavioral sciences.

The Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health will be hosting four webinars in November, offering potential grantees the opportunity to hear from experts about the NIH grant application process.
