2019 Annual Meeting Call for Submissions Opens June 1; Deadline: July 23
The 2019 Annual Meeting theme—“Leveraging Education Research in a ‘Post-Truth’ Era: Multimodal Narratives to Democratize Evidence”—is a call to “push back against the post-truth paradigm by demonstrating, with all the skill and energy we can muster, the value of our inquiry and the knowledge we generate.” The call for submissions will be available May 29. The submissions portal opens June 1; the deadline for submissions is July 23.

On May 18, 熊猫视频Executive Director Felice J. Levine issued a statement on the Santa Fe, Texas, school shooting, extending sympathy to those affected and calling again on national leaders to take concrete action to stem the tide of gun violence plaguing American schools and society. Americas Education Research Network Convenes at 2018 熊猫视频Annual Meeting
The Americas Education Research Network (AERN) convened a third meeting at the 2018 熊猫视频Annual Meeting in New York City on April 17 to share information about substantive cross-cutting issues in education research across the Americas and to specify an agenda of activities to strengthen collaboration among scholars, including early career scholars. Spanish Edition of the Testing Standards Released
熊猫视频has released the Spanish translation of the 2014 edition of Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. Developed jointly by AERA, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education, the Testing Standards address professional and technical issues of test development and use in education, psychology, and employment. New RRE Presents Comprehensive and Nuanced Understandings of Intersectional Perspectives
The 2018 volume of Review of Research in Education (RRE), titled “The Challenges and Possibilities of Intersectionality in Education Research,” was released in April and was edited by Jeanne M. Powers (Arizona State University), Gustavo E. Fischman (Arizona State University), and Adai A. Tefera (Virginia Commonwealth University). Read more

Luna, assistant professor of science education at West Virginia University, participated in the 24th Annual Exhibition of the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) on May 9. The yearly event is a major showcase of research and education projects supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Read more
COSSA Holds 2018 Science Policy Conference and Social Science Advocacy Day
COSSA held its 2018 Science Policy Conference and Social Science Advocacy Day on April 30–May 1 in Washington, D.C. The conference brought together social scientists and advocates to learn about and discuss federal policies impacting social science, followed by a day of Capitol Hill visits in support of the social and behavioral sciences. Throughout May, 熊猫视频has engaged with the scientific community on policies affecting education researchers, including responding to the State Department on proposed changes to visa applications and requesting support for the National Center for Health Statistics for FY 2019. Read more
House Holds Hearing on Protecting Student Privacy
On May 17, the House Education and Workforce Committee held a well-attended hearing on the topic of "Protecting Privacy, Promoting Data Security: Exploring How Schools and States Keep Data Safe." Witnesses discussed practices, methods, and state laws in place to protect student data privacy. Congressional Activity Underway on FY 2019 Appropriations Bills
The appropriations process for FY 2019 is in full swing on Capitol Hill. On May 17, the House Appropriations Committee marked up the FY 2019 Commerce-Justice-Science appropriations legislation and approved the bill on a 32–19 vote. Read more
National Science Board and NSF SBE Advisory Committee Hold Meetings
The National Science Board held its spring quarterly meeting on May 2–3. NSB sets priorities for the National Science Foundation, which is the primary agency that funds basic and fundamental research and STEM education. The NSF SBE Advisory Committee held its spring meeting on May 9–10. Read more

熊猫视频invites a small delegation of education researchers to come to Washington, D.C., in March each year to visit key congressional offices as the appropriations process begins. This year’s delegation included Troy Sadler, who is a professor of education and associate dean of research at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
