In Memoriam

ÐÜèÊÓÆµmembers who have recently passed away

Glen Irving Earthman, 95, died on March 26. He was an associate professor emeritus in educational leadership at Virginia Tech.

Carl Kaestle, 82, died January 5. Kaestle was an emeritus professor of education, history, and public policy emeritus at Brown University, and a former president of the National Academy of Education. He was an ÐÜèÊÓÆµFellow, recipient of the ÐÜèÊÓÆµReview of Research Award, and served on the ÐÜèÊÓÆµTask Force on IES Reauthorization.

Fred Newmann, 86, died February 10. He worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madision’s School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction for three decades. Newmann received the ÐÜèÊÓÆµPalmer O. Johnson Award in 2003 and an ÐÜèÊÓÆµPresidential Citation in 2002.
