The Nominating Committees for AERA-wide and division offices have completed their work identifying candidates for the forthcoming 2015 ÐÜèÊÓÆµelection.

ÐÜèÊÓÆµPast President John I. Goodlad died November 29 at his home in Seattle at age 94. Goodlad, professor emeritus in the University of Washington’s College of Education and co-founder of the Center for Educational Renewal, served as ÐÜèÊÓÆµPresident in 1967–1968. 

Research Funding and Policy News


The bill to reauthorize the Institute of Education Sciences, the Strengthening Education Through Research Act, H.R. 4366, failed to receive a vote on the Senate floor before the Senate’s adjournment on Tuesday, December 16.

Congress passed an appropriations bill for the remainder of the 2015 fiscal year  during the week of December 8, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown. 


ÐÜèÊÓÆµjoined more than 125 organizations in the Coalition to Promote Research earlier this month to express support for the peer-review process at the National Institutes of Health. 


The Office of Management and Budget published the final version of a new statistical policy directive (Statistical Policy Directive No. 1: Fundamental Responsibilities of Federal Statistical Agencies) in the Federal Register on December 2. 



On December 3, the Federal Register published a long-awaited draft of regulations on teacher preparation from the U.S. Department of Education, intended to improve the quality—and increase the accountability—of teacher preparation programs.


New federal education research initiatives were among the 600 government and university actions announced by President Obama and college and university presidents during a December 4 White House summit on college opportunity.


The National Science Foundation has released new practices for enhancing transparency and accountability of NSF-funded grants.
