On January 31, 2017, ÐÜèÊÓÆµwill open the 2017 election with voting conducted by electronic ballot. Voting members will receive a personalized link by e-mail to access their ballot.

Ruth Curran Neild left her position as the delegated director of the Institute of Education Sciences on January 13. Neild had served in this role since 2014, after the departure of John Easton.
HELP Committee Sends DeVos Nomination for Education Secretary to Full Senate
On January 31, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted 12–11 along party lines to approve the nomination of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary, to be considered by the full Senate.
