June 2023Email Newsletter

Dear Educational Change SIG Members,

I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of summer and that the season ahead is filled with opportunities for fun and rejuvenation. Thank you to all those who volunteered as reviewers for our SIG for the next èƵconference. We appreciate you!

Just a couple of things for June:

  1. Please dorenewwith us - the SIG’s health is dependent on our membership numbers and I hope you will encourage others to join our vibrant community as well. On this note, I also wanted to support other SIGs and offer the following from the Detracking SIG
    1. The Tracking/Detracking SIG focuses on research regarding educational stratification, how students are sorted, and what potential outcomes exist in different sorting systems. Our members enjoy presenting in a supportive environment at AERA’s Annual Meeting, where we also take a yearly trip to see a school engaging in some sort of detracking reform to learn from students, teachers, leaders, and other community members. We also offer virtual programming between annual meetings. We recently hosted a panel discussion with the folks behind the documentary I’m Smart, Too and also plan to host an èƵproposal submission workshop in June. We take pride in sharing our members’ work through our Twitter account and our quarterly newsletter. If you would like to join us, you can add us to your SIG selection on AERA.net for just $5. Email our chair, Margaret Thornton (thorntonm@rowan.edu), for more information. We hope to see you soon!
  1. This monthLead the Changeis brought to us by Max Yurkofsky an Assistant Professor at Radford University. This work challenges us to consider multiple and potentially paradoxical approaches to change and how we might help those in practice to more expansively conceptualize their work. Enjoy!

Thank you to our Partners
