Dr. Hillary Parkhouse638526881457784203

Hillary Parkhouse, Ph.D.Ìýis an associate professor in the Department of Teaching and LearningÌýin the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education. Her research focuses on how teacher education and professional development can support culturally relevant education and sociopolitical consciousness for teachers and students. She also studies critical civic education and global awareness for social justice. These research interests stem from her experiences teaching high school social studies, English as a Second Language, and literature in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.Ìý

Dr. Parkhouse and her co-authors, Ariel Tichnor-Wagner, Jocelyn Glazier, and J. Montana Cain, published the bookÌýBecoming a Globally Competent TeacherÌý(ASCD, 2019). Dr. Parkhouse has also published articles inÌýHarvard Educational Review, Teachers College Record, Educational Researcher,ÌýandÌýReview of Educational Research.ÌýShe currently teaches courses on multilingual learners, bilingual education, curriculum development, and teacher education.
