Hillary Parkhouse, Ph.D.听is an associate professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning听in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education. Her research focuses on how teacher education and professional development can support culturally relevant education and sociopolitical consciousness for teachers and students. She also studies critical civic education and global awareness for social justice. These research interests stem from her experiences teaching high school social studies, English as a Second Language, and literature in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.听
Dr. Parkhouse and her co-authors, Ariel Tichnor-Wagner, Jocelyn Glazier, and J. Montana Cain, published the book听Becoming a Globally Competent Teacher听(ASCD, 2019). Dr. Parkhouse has also published articles in听Harvard Educational Review, Teachers College Record, Educational Researcher,听and听Review of Educational Research.听She currently teaches courses on multilingual learners, bilingual education, curriculum development, and teacher education.
