Every two years we nominate a new Treasurer. In this way, other officers move up to the next position level. Thus, officers make an 8-year commitment of service to the LSP SIG. In addition, every year the LSP SIG sponsors the Emerging Scholar Achievement Award, and its committee includes a nominated chair and 3 members (the prior years award recipient, a member volunteer and one of the student representatives). LSP SIG Chair Job responsibilities: a) To communicate with members via the LSP SIGs listserv to provide information and updates, and disseminate calls (i.e., proposals, nominations, ballots); b) To plan and organize the Business Meeting; c) To facilitate Board meetings, discussion of pressing topics and follow-up actions; d) To complete and submit AERAs Special Interest Groups forms with updated LSP SIG information and contacts; e) To coordinate other LSP SIG officers access to the listserv; f) To coordinate the organization of the Emerging Scholar Award committee, work closely with the committee chair, and organize appropriate documents; g) To recruit new members; and h) To mentor incoming Chair. LSP SIG Program Chair Job responsibilities: a) To work with the Chair to create a call for proposals soon after the annual convention; b) To recruit and coordinate conference proposal reviewers; c) To develop the LSP SIG program for the annual convention including sending letters of acceptance and rejection and any other correspondence required to confirm the program; d) To submit to the newsletter editor, once the preliminary program is released by AERA, a list of the LSP SIG sponsored and co-sponsored sessions; d) To coordinate outreach efforts via distribution of LSP SIG program highlights during the èƵconference; e) To recruit new members; f) To mentor incoming Program Chair. Newsletter/Web Editor Job responsibilities: a) To participate and contribute in LSP SIG matters as board member; b) To develop, edit, and produce the LSP SIG annual newsletter (or biannual, if able to do so); c) To recruit updated information from members via the LSP SIG listserv to be included in the annual newsletter; d) To monitor and mentor one LSP SIG graduate student representative who serves as Web Site Editor; e) To mentor the upcoming Newsletter/Web Editor; f) to oversee, with the Treasurer and graduate student representative, the recording, maintenance, and compilation of LSP SIG history; g) To recruit new members; and h) To mentor, in collaboration with the Treasurer, LSP SIG graduate student representatives. LSP SIG Treasurer Job responsibilities: a) To participate and contribute in LSP SIG matters as board member; b) To monitor the LSP SIG membership and èƵfees; c) To document and update LSP SIG members on overall budget and èƵfees; d) to assist the newsletter/Web editor and graduate student representative in the recording, maintenance, and compilation of LSP SIG history; e) To mentor, in collaboration with the newsletter/Web editor, the LSP SIG graduate student representatives; f) To recruit new members; and g) To mentor incoming Treasurer. Graduate Student Representatives The Language and Social Processes Special Interest Group has two Student Representative positions on its Board of Officers. These positions aim to provide leadership and mentorship opportunities for graduate students working in the area of language and social processes. Both positions work directly with the Newsletter Editor as well as with the Treasurer. We encourage nominations/participation of graduate students, preferably doctoral students, from universities across the United States and overseas. Job responsibilities: a) To represent graduate student interests as members of the LSP SIG and its Board; b) To facilitate the development of a Graduate Leadership Team; and c) To work with the Newsletter Editor on the development and publication of the LSP newsletters; and d) To recruit new graduate students members. In addition, Position #1 is responsible for the organization and update of the LSP SIG's Web page, under the oversight of the newsletter/Web editor; and Position #2 is responsible for the organization and update of the LSP SIG's history archive, under the oversight of the newsletter/Web editor, and in collaboration with the treasurer. Emerging Scholar Award Committee Committee Chair Responsibilities: a) Towork closely with theLSP SIG chair to coordinate the organization of the ESA committee; b) To review all the applicants materials (nominating letter from a senior scholar, cover letter from applicant, representative text/publication, and the applicants CV); c) To coordinate communication and timelines with ESA committee; d) To coordinate the committee's work and application of selection criteria (i.e., quality of application and submitted publication/text, significance of work to Language and Social Processes research, contribution of scholarship to theory, method, and/or practice); and e) To compile and summarize results.
