Teacher effectiveness in kindergarten: The importance of supports for teachers and teacher salaries for student literacy and math learning
This study investigates the school organizational and social factors that promote effective teaching for all students, and for minority and socio-economically disadvantaged students in particular. Using hierarchical linear modeling to analyze data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten cohort, the study examines the influence of a supportive teacher work environment and teacher base salaries on literacy and mathematics learning in kindergarten, after accounting for a broad range of student and school characteristics. It further examines how this relationship varies by student socio-economic status.
